Today’s Google News top story - and illustration. Big explosion there. But despite the headline about “rocket fire on Israel”, this is a photo of Israel bombing of Gaza. The opposite of the headline. This is all too common in our press - and it leaves the opposite impression in our minds from the truth.

Clicking on the link opens a Jerusalem Post article that is decent - and does not have the photo. Click on the photo and the link opens to the Toronto Star article which has a slightly different headline that still misleads with the photo just below.

Whats the point? War news is usually distorted and we have several wars going on right now. All protagonists - and many newspaper editors - want to shape our opinion and are not above sleight of hand to achieve that desired opinion.
