Oftimes it is far easier to criticize than to compliment. Is it too easy to forget how to acknowledge positive steps? At this week's WAG meeting, Port official Mike Stoner, Mayor Dan Pike, City Planning Director Time Stewart and the WAG Committee conducted a professional and informative dialog on the draft Waterfront EIS. Although I didn't do an exact nose count, citizen attendance was excellent. There were two points made that I feel are especially noteworthy exhibits of good leadership---the Mayor's request that a preferred alternative density model be identified, and the Port's presentation on the application of Triple Bottom Line thinking for the redevelopment effort.

I repeat what many others have said---this is a HUGE effort. It is complex technically, economically and socially. It will define Bellingham and the area for decades to come. The EIS alone is 1300 pages long. I encourage all who can to become informed, ask questions and participate. Again, congrats to the Port and City...I think they are showing a new level of collaboration.
