Thank you for the clarification Sam. The email I had from Stan Snapp indicated it would be Todd and Gene doing election analysis, sorry about that. I contacted Susan (since she was the contact on the press release, not you) and Stan about it before going to print.

That is interesting that you, and the students, are going to do the election night coverage. I’m excited to see the final product!

Also good call on not covering the City of Ferndale race, because of the ethical concerns involved. I’m glad that KGMI and the Herald will be there to help cover that story without those complications.

I’m delighted that this project is happening, I’m always thrilled when there is more media coverage on election night.

I believe that is the only thing you questioning as being in correct, the guests that have or have not been confirmed. You say you are not going to discuss the City of Ferndale, but are you positive, at no point, will the discussion mention that race?

Or rather are you saying that there wouldn’t be any ethical concerns about you moderating a discussion about the City of Ferndale? I know that this is not the first time you have faced with such ethical questions, but are you honestly saying it is not a fair concern?

I have added a link to the Press Release by the Center for New Media, issued last week. It should by itself provide sufficient research for anyone who wants to announce the election night event - as Riley does in this post and I did in a later post.  No where in the release does it suggest a limit to what Sam will cover.  Indeed, the release rather expands on the star quality of Sam as host for this event.  The whole point of a press release is to get coverage in the media for your event.  We gave it that coverage.

Perhaps Sam was not shown the release before it was sent.  I have not received any later release from the Center for New Media making any correction to the original release.  While any of us can always make another phone call, one should also be able to stay within the edges of a press release and not get criticized for commenting on its content.
