Obama Wins - YaaahHoooo
We watched it being inevitable for the last hour - and now the networks are declaring Barack Obama the president with 283 sure electoral votes. California puts him there.
A bloodless revolution. I think the biggest change since FDR in 1932. The American people have spoken with a loud voice after the last two elections were stolen from them by the right wing money powers. The right wing narrow minds have finally been defeated. And we will fix our voting rights and election processes to prevent the stealing of future elections.
John McCain's finest moment. His gracious concession speech was the most honorable act - and the most noble moment of his life. What he said will be heard around the world. It is a fine example of how we change leadership.

Virginia casts its electoral votes for Obama - a black man. This is amazing - but more importantly it is symbolic. Virginia is the soul of the south. The other southern states have always looked to Virginia as their mentor and better. I lived 5 years in Virginia - several decades ago. For me to see Virginia vote for a black man for President is an emotional moment. I loved Virginia but as a priveleged white man from the north I had many jolting experiences. I only saw the surface of the discrimination and its impacts on blacks while I was allowed to enjoy the world of the white moneyed class. I sipped whiskey in a smoke house with the Governor of Virginia during one political rally. I covered the political campaigns of elite Virginia young men as a news photographer. I savored the fine generous hospitality of Virginia families at their unique annual parties. I know a bit about Virginia. We must also remember that our revolution was led by Virginians back in 1776. And now Virginia again shows it is not afraid to be a leader of the nation and show the way to the future - a future of equality and opportunity for all. Nice move, Virginia.
Obama's speech. A lot of tears on faces in that crowd. A lot of hope on faces. And his speech just got better and better as he worked his way through it. Again, thank God McCain said the words he did because he allowed America to later this evening listen to Barack with a rapt attention as he spoke of the future and as he challenged us. He said this is a new time and our time and our moment. He inspired us - and we have longed to be inspired these many years. Like any people in history we want a leader who speaks to us and for us. Barack put our thoughts and hopes and also our frustrations into words and gave them back to us. Indirectly and politely he said the awful years of Bush are over. He said indeed change is here and he will do all he can to help us go in a new direction. We can hardly wait.
I was one of 632,000 persons who donated for the first time to Obama's campaign in September. $25. What i can afford. Barack is not beholden to the old Democratic Party machine. He bypassed it and reached out and over 3 million of us contributed the needed money for him to win. He assembled a smart staff and directed them on his march to victory. Thus he is his own person and can operate with more independence than perhaps any president since Teddy Roosevelt a hundred years ago. And like Teddy, he may help us move forward again after decades of stagnation. On to the future. And may our new president be protected from harm.
Addition - Wed morning.
Checking the cable news channels - CNN, CNBC and Fox. They are spending the most time speculating on Palin's future, what McCain did wrong to lose, how news events happened so as to make McCain lose, who could have better won as a Republican (Romney) - in short, everything except how Obama brought all the good spirited people of this country together. And how he did it against the Deomcratic Party insider maching and against the Republican Atwater-Rove dirty tricks machine. They haven't a clue how America thinks and acts. They cannot handle the emotional consequences of Barack Obama, a black man and an outsider and a true leader and a first class thinker, actually convincing the American people - with their help - that he is the best leader for them to have. And the losers are finding all sorts of scarecrows to flail out at. A majority of the American people considered their choices and choose. And we have every right to celebrate that and be excited about the changes this makes possible for our future.
