Kremen has a problem
Kremen has a problem
I'm as bad as our esteemed Herald reporters. I, too, had the info this morning - but could not bring myself to post it. Pete Kremen intended to run against Tony Larson. I could not believe it. Yesterday evening at a political gathering Pete referred to Tony in a derogatory manner, suggested Larson had delusions of grandeur, and that he, Pete, would do the community the favor of taking him out. This afternoon, Kremen has filed as a candidate for the Whatcom County Council against Tony Larson.
I just became a supporter of Tony Larson.
A few months ago, I interviewed Tony. It was just before my brother died and, as a consequence, no article came out of it. But I have my memory and notes of the interview. Now I've known Tony for 20 years or more - nearly as long as Kremen. Tony is a fine up-front guy and has run a successful business magazine. In the interview he came across as a guy who was his own person politically. I had written during Tony's campaign that I thought he would be in Crawford's pocket. The night Tony took his council seat he showed that to be wrong. His voting and statements show he is his own person. I may not agree with Tony on all issues - or even most - but I respect him for looking into issues and voting as he thinks best.
Kremen has no idea what he thinks. I thought Pete was going to retire quietly and go away. Travel with his long-suffering wife. Say goodbe to all that. Kremen should now be fully examined by all who are in politics in Whatcom County. Voters, right and left, have good reason to join in putting Pete to pasture, once and for all. And I've a bit of advice for Pete: If you are running for office after your physician advised against it, maybe you should see a shrink.
I may have more to say about Pete if he is still a candidate next week.
