A first look at what the primary results may indicate for the general election in November.
Rick Larsen is in trouble. Koster has a real chance of replacing Rick Larsen in Congress. Many of us Independents who are so disgusted with Larsen may well vote for Koster.
Vincent Buys has more votes than Kelli Linville - and this is amazing. While the Democrats tend to ignore the primary elections and turn out strong in the general election, this is still a huge upset. Vincent has a good chance of showing the Independent voters why they should give him their votes.
Overall, the Tea Party and the Republicans did a great job of getting out the vote for this primary election. And our local Democratic Party did a lousy job. Indeed, they remain somewhat impotent and unable to make decisions and work together. They sort of endorsed both Al Jensen and Richard Mays and ended up sending a message to voters that they did not know who was the best Democratic candidate. And it shows. Mays and Jensen combined have fewer votes than Overstreet.
Jean Melious did as well in her bid for the County Council. While Tony and Teresa got more votes than Jean, again the liberals and Independents like her and will vote in November.

Well, the Secretary of State site is finally displaying the Whatcom County results. You can use the links on the right column. It took almost two hours for the State site to display our local results - evidence that they really mismanaged the computer system in Olympia.
9:27 p.m.
We now have a pdf document of our Whatcom County election results that you can download and view. Whatcom County Auditor, Shirley Forslof, emailed this to all the local news organizations. Sam Taylor deserves credit for getting his posted so quickly. See the links below this article - and the right column for the pdf.
It is now 9:30 p.m. and our Secretary of State, Sam Reed, still does not have his new super computer system working. It is all choked up and the server is crawling in overload. This is incompetence on his part and there is no excuse. He planned this take over from county auditors. Election results are important and we deserve to know them at 8 p.m. A bigger worry is will his computers mangle the results - and how do we know if they are accurate?
9:04 p.m.
The Secretary of State computer system has choked up and has still not displayed our Whatcom County results as of 9 p.m.
Sam Taylor of the Herald has been on the job. He received a printout from the county Auditor and has it posted on his blog. You can click to it in the right column or below this post.
