OK, citizen readers...what's going on here? Are we witnessing a new war, right here in our backyard? It would appear so, and of course, we citizens are funding both combatants with our tax money. That's a joyful thought.

At the beginning of the year, I filed comments for the record about the Port and City needing to work a process for identifying, weighting and agreeing on what was important for the waterfront redevelopment. It is not easy to do something like that, but it has been done before. Anybody hear of "Getting to Yes", or "Values Based Assessment", not to mention the guidance from the Waterfront Futures Group? We can argue all day and night about more or less cars, road grids and build out, but please elected officials, let's agree on the process we should use FIRST. We civilians get weary of the mess and cost of clean up when you ignore that important step.

But, if you agree that you can't agree, let's move quickly for an alternative solution. Let's pay a mediator, rather than lawyers. I'll even volunteer to help mediate for free (and I'm sure others would do the same). Or let's turn it back to the citizens...how about a special election in early January. The citizens of our community can't do any worse than the spiraling downward that is happening now.
