Oaths of Office Considered On Veterans Day 2025
“A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, reserve or separated after honorable service - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount of ‘up to and including my life.’ ”
There are several versions of the quote above, however, the gist is clear and unmistakable. Taking the oath to become an officer [text above] or an enlisted member [view Oath of Enlistment HERE] of the armed services is an open-ended pledge to support and defend the U.S. Constitution. All veterans living today took that oath. The oath does not expire. Consequently, your loyalty remains an open-ended pledge to support and defend the U.S. Constitution and nothing else. Only an individual can decide to no longer honor it. That is about to be tested, especially if you are a current member of the military.
All the best to my fellow veterans on this Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
