This will provide a golden opportunity for Councilmember-Elect Tony Larson to define himself on land use planning matters, something he adroitly avoided in the November election.

  It will be interesting to see if he is, in fact, his own man on planning matters, or if he, like Councilmembers Bill Knutzen and Kathy Kirschner, will meekly defer to the bullheaded and inane non-planning notions of Council President Sam Crawford and his puppetmasters, Jack Swanson, Bob Tull, et al…

Let’s see if Tony brings any spine or intellectual integrity
to the important issues of long range land use planning in Whatcom County.  After all, Tony has to run for his Council seat again in the not-too-distant future.

I’m sure, John, Mr. Larson will be far more concerned with the prospective contributions from Tull, Swanson and their clients than concerned with the waste of taxpayers’ money on endless litigation to enrich those contributors.

John Lesow nailed it. This is Tony Larson’s sink or swim moment. We will see which way he goes. My guess? A few procedure votes doing the right thing as cover, then when it comes down to it, voting with Crawford.

A quick look at a few County Zoning Maps, related to the LAMIRD’s and quite a few “other” rural areas, that actually contain a surburban or urban developement pattern, and would be zoned as such, in every other county of the state. Any person who believes a quarter acre lot deserves a rural zoning designation, needs their head examined.
