Tim Douglas - the longest-serving mayor in Bellingham's history - will now serve another year. This also sets up a perfect scenario for Dan McShane's run for mayor as there will be no incumbent. Asmundson is the person who lost in the vote. While true that Knutson did not work with Mark for his election as interim mayor, Mark did work to have Knutson elected. Everything the players of this process did had 2007 in mind and the election of the next mayor. Asmundson does not favor McShane. We now have a wide-open campaign process in motion for November 2007.
