For a very good perspective on what happened at the port meeting on Monday, read Tim Johnson's Gristle column online in today's Cascadia Weekly website.  Or, pick up a free copy at most normal free racks in Bellingham or the county.

The column highlights the false argument attempts by commissioner Scott Walker and the port's highly paid non-staff attorney, Frank Chmelik.  Chmelik, supposedly quoting state law, made factually incorrect statements about the law governing the expansion of a port district to 5 commissioners.  He said the port could not later go to 5 districts once it creates two at large seats.  Walker showed no sense of what a representative democracy is.  Anyway, Tim writes this all with a fine touch.
