Kelli assists community involvement at her first Council meeting as Mayor

I was not in attendence tonight, so I don't have all the details, but John Servais sent this photo from his iPhone with the basics of the story.  This was Kelli Linville's first Council meeting as our new mayor.  During an opportunity for the public to speak, a single dad came to the microphone with his child.  The child was distracted and kept trying to seize the mic.  This flummoxed the dad, who was trying to say his piece. Kelli got up, walked over, and took the child in her arms to let the dad proceed. The child calmed right down and watched with interest as its dad had his say.  Not only did Kelli facilitate by calming the child, but seemed to be listening intently, too.  That's change you can believe in!

  • As an aside, Kelli and Jack Louws had a joint reception tonight at the Port of Bellingham’s Squalicum Boathouse.  It was exceedingly well-attended.  Beyond the ordinary hobnobbing and schmoozing, this unusually auspicious beginning to collaborative City/County relations is as good as I have ever seen.

  • What a great meeting, I was so impressed when she got up and picked up that little girl! She knew exactly what to do and I don’t think anyone was expecting it.
