Please sign the anti-whaling petition

Fri, Jun 18, 2010, 1:31 am  //  John Servais

Next week, starting Monday, June 21, the International Whaling Commission meets.  For the first time in decades they will actually vote on whether or not to allow commercial whaling again.

Whaling is something many of us feel strongly about - strongly against.  If you feel whaling is an abomination and should be stopped, then you want to add your name to this petition.  It is an online petition at:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/whales_last_push

and reads:

To parties of the International Whaling Commission:  As citizens from around the world, we call on you to retain the international ban on commercial whaling as the core policy of the International Whaling Commission in its pursuit of conservation of whales.

While they say they will protect your privacy, I did not enter my phone number.  My name was still added to the petition, as evidenced by the email acknowledgement.  This is a French organization and they have people at the meeting-place in Morocco to make sure the delegates know of the petition total.

Thank you for letting us know, Mr. Servais.  I immediately did so, and saw my information was added to the list.  I cannot imagine life without the beautiful orcas that go by my parent’s home on Lummi Island every year.  Seeing a baby orca on Mother’s Day last year with the mom is something I will remember for the rest of my life.
